Thomas County, Georgia (Map It) was created on December 23, 1825 from Decatur County and Irwin County . Portions of Thomas County were used to form Colquitt County in 1856, Brooks County in 1858, and Grady County in 1905. Thomas County was named in honor of General Jett Thomas (1776 - 1817), a hero of the War of 1812.
Thomas County is bordered by  Colquitt County (northeast), Brooks County (east), Jefferson County, Florida (south), Leon County, Florida (southwest), Grady County (west), Mitchell County (northwest)
