Echols County, Georgia (Map It) was created on December 13, 1858 from Clinch County and Lowndes County . Echols County was named in honor of General Robert M. Echols (1798 - 1847), a state legislator and a hero of the Mexican-American War.

Echols County is bordered by  Clinch County (northeast), Columbia County, Florida (south), Hamilton County, FL (south), Lowndes County (west), Lanier County (north).

Echols County, GA Courthouse

The Echols County Courthouse is located in Statenville, Georgia. The County Courthouse was destroyed by fire in 1897 destroying all records.
