Hall County, Georgia Records

Hall County, Georgia (Map It) was created on December 15, 1818 from Cherokee Cessions of 1817 and 1819 . Hall County was named in honor of Dr. Lyman Hall (1724 - 90), one of Georgia's delegates to the Continental Congress who signed the Declaration of Independence. He became the governor of Georgia in 1783.

Hall County is bordered by  White County (north), Habersham County (norteast), Banks County (east), Jackson County, Barrow County (south), Gwinnett County (southwest), Forsyth County (west), Dawson County (northwest), Lumpkin County (northwest)

Hall County, GA Courthouse

The Hall County Courthouse is located in Gainesville, Georgia. The County Courthouse was burned in 1851, and a replacement was built--but it burned also in 1882. The county's next courthouse was built in 1884, but it was destroyed by a devastating tornando that hit Gainesville in 1936.
