Koochiching County, Minnesota (Map It) was created on December 19, 1906 from Itasca County. The county was named for the Ojibway version of the Cree name for Rainy Lake and Rainy River.
Koochiching County is bordered by Ontario Province, Canada (north), St. Louis County (southeast), Itasca County (south), Beltrami County (southwest), Lake of the Woods County (northwest).
