Idaho Military Records Research Guide

There are two collections of military records that researchers may find interesting located at the Idaho State Historical Society. One collection contains Idaho Soldier’s Home records beginning in 1894 and going through 1983 and the collection is entitled “”Soldier’s Home.” It contains admissions applications, which feature all of the following information: Record Number, Admission Date, Name, Age, Nativity, Company, Regiment, Rank, Time Served, Pension, Disabilities, County, Occupation, Social Condition, Literacy

Collection number two, which is called “The Adjutant General-State of Idaho: Collection of Official Correspondence, Records, and Documents, 1877-1927,” contains ammunition and arms requests from Idaho residents during the Indian Wars of 1877/78 to Governor Brayman. That same collection also contains pension benefits, discharge requests and some Idaho volunteer discharge paperwork from the Bannock and Nez Perce Wars. Also part of the collection are Idaho Volunteer Regiment muster rolls, World War I draft information, and Idaho National Guard unit company rosters from the 1916 Mexican Border Campaign.
