Pope County, Illinois (Map It) was created on January 10, 1816 from Gallatin County and Johnson County. Pope County was named for Nathaniel Pope (1784-1850), early Delegate from Illinois Territory to Congress and judge on the United States District Court for the District of Illinois .

- Pope County Clerk & Recorder of Deeds has Marriage Records from 1813, Birth & Death Records from 1877 and Land Records from 1816.
