Jo Daviess County, Illinois (Map It) was created on February 17, 1827 from Henry County and Putnam County. Jo Daviess County was named for Joseph Hamilton Daveiss (1774-1811), commander of the Indiana Dragoons at the Battle of Tippecanoe .
