Owyhee County, Idaho (Map It) was created on December 31, 1863 as an Original County. Owyhee County was named as a corruption of the word Hawaii. Hawaiian fur trappers explored the area in 1819 and 1820.
Owyhee County is bordered by Canyon County (north), Ada County (north), Elmore County (north), Twin Falls County (east), Elko County, Nevada (south), Humboldt County, Nevada (southwest), Malheur County, Oregon (west).
