Monroe County, Arkansas<\/strong> (Map It<\/a>)<\/em> was created on November 2, 1829<\/strong> and was formed from Phillips County<\/a> and Arkansas County<\/a>. Parts of Monroe County was used to form the following counties: Lee 1873.<\/p>\n\n

Other county boundry changes<\/a> occured when Boundaries defined 25 December 1840, line with Prairie changed 7 December 1850, 12 April 1869, 26 April 1873 and 27 May 1874. Monroe County was named in honor of James Monroe<\/a>\u00a0(1758\u20131831), 5th President of the United States . <\/p>\n\n

Monroe County<\/strong> is bordered by Woodruff County<\/a> (north), St. Francis County<\/a> (northeast), Lee County<\/a> (east), Phillips County<\/a> (southeast), Arkansas County<\/a> (southwest), Prairie County<\/a> (west).<\/p>\n\n
