Miami County, Kansas<\/strong> (Map It<\/a>)<\/em> was created on August 25, 1855<\/strong> as one of the original 36 counties. Originally named Lykins County<\/strong> and was named for David Lykins, a Baptist missionary to the Confederated Tribes, whose mission was located just east of the modern city of Paola. The county was renamed Miami County<\/strong> on June 03, 1861<\/strong> and named for the Miami Native Americans, who lived in the area..<\/p>\n\n

Miami County<\/strong> is bordered by Johnson County<\/a> (north), Cass County, Missouri<\/a> (east), Bates County, Missouri<\/a>, Linn County<\/a> (south), Anderson County<\/a> (southwest), Franklin County<\/a> (west), Douglas County<\/a> (northwest).<\/p>\n\n
