The Great Chicago Fire destroyed many vital records prior to 1871. The Chicago Tribune has a lot of issues from prior to the fire that can fill in the blanks for some deaths. Dates of availability vary for issues prior to 1871. Please note that many of the “obituaries” from early newspapers are very brief and mainly list the name, their address or place of death and funeral or cemetery information. Larger obituaries with family members listed were not common until the late 1800’s and early 1900’s so keep that in mind when requesting early obits. You are still responsible for paying for the copy regardless of how little info is contained. This is simply to cover the cost of my parking/copy expenses. If you have any questions, just ask.
